Governance
ILha is an early-stage project developing a living model that restores the relationship between people, land, culture and the resources that sustain them.
To protect this purpose over the long term, ILha Ltd16577859 a UK company limited by guarantee, has been established to acquire the land. Subject to Portuguese legal and regulatory processes, ownership is intended to transfer to a Portuguese purpose-led entity designed to provide for the long-term stewardship and protection of the land for future generations ensuring protection of the project’s mission.
The final governance structure is being created alongside legal and tax advisers in both the UK and Portugal to provide the accountability and legal protections required for the project to evolve over time. All donations and resources entrusted to ILha Ltd will be stewarded to support the land, the preservation of traditional knowledge and the communities that will carry this work forward.
